UED 102 WEEK 2

THE CHAPTER 2: CONTINUE

 THE JOURNEY

Good to inform you, readers that week 2 had begun.

Content:

  1. Getting to Know The Campus
  2. Memory Learning & Improving Concentration

1. Library & Campus Resources

To be a good student who has a successful achievement and academic, we have to know the resources that can help us to achieve it.

2. Memory Learning & Improving Concentration

Skill: the ability to do something well

  • Understanding memory processes
Learning pyramid (method of training and retention rates)
Activity 1: Memory vs Brains

The analogy:-

  1. Memory- computer software
  2.  Brain- computer hardware

What is:-

  1. Memory- the individual ability to keep and remember the all information and experiences
  2. Brains- organs
Examples of the components and the analogies toward humans:-

  1. CPU: Brain
  2. Pendrive: memory
  3. Keyboard: mouth
  4. Speaker: mouth
  5. Microphone: ear
  6. Encoding/ input (computer: keyboard, camera; human: 5 senses-ears, tongue, nose, skin, eyes)
  7. Storage (computer: hard disk, thumb drive; human: 3 type of memory- sensory memory, short-term memory, long-term memory)
  8. Retrieval (computer: printer; human:writing

Know your brain?

  • Manage hundreds of data per second

Memory

3 types:-
  • Sensory memory (SM)
  • Short-term memory (STM)
  • Long-term memory (LTM)

SM

  • Stores temporary information from our 5 senses
  • Temporary

STM

  • Receiving and storing in a short duration (30 seconds to 24 hours)
  • The storage limit is limited

LTM

  • Memory in long period
  • Eternal depends of the someone's ability to recall

Recall

  • The weakness to recall LTM information called 'forget'

Activity 2: "Close Your Eyes"

Based on this activity, we will be given 12 numbers. For 30 seconds, you have to memorize the numbers. After the given time, you have to write them according to the arrangement.

My result:

  • MEMORY STRATEGIES
Our brain ability can be improved by stimulation, diet, exercises, practise and do-and-don't-do.

FORGET AND REMEMBER

WHY:-

  1. DISTRACTION
  2. CONCENTRATION
  3. TIME

EASY TO REMEMBER. HOW?:

  1. INTEREST
  2. REPEATING
  3. PRACTICE
FROM ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE:-
  1. INTENTION
  2. EFFORT
  3. PRACTICE
  4. DON'T DISOBEY ALLAH

STRATEGIES:-

  1. MASSED PRACTICE VS SPACED PRACTICE ( ENOUGH TIME TO MEMORIZE)
  2. DOWN (AGAIN NO CRAMMING)(EG; 2 CHAPTERS PER DAY, NOT ALL CHAPTERS)
  3. REHEARSAL ( STUDY THE SPEAK)
  4. ELABORATION STRATEGIES ( ACRONYM/CATCH WORDS, ACROSTICS/ CATCH PHRASES)
  5. MNEMOMIC
  6. IMAGERY (PICTURES)

  • STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING CONCENTRATION
CAUSES OF POOR
  1. CE VS SPACED PRACTICED ( ENOUGH TIME TO MEMORIZE)
  2. BREAK READING MA
CONCENTRATION:-

  1. LACKS OF ATTENTION
  2. LACKS OF INTEREST
  3. LACKS OF MOTIVATION
  4. DISTRACTION FROM OTHERS
  5. UNCOMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT
  6. PHYSIOLOGICAL MATTERS
  7. PHYCHOLOGICAL MATTERS

STRATEGIES:-

  1. USE MOTIVATIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIES
  2. CREATE A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
  3. DEAL WITH INTERNAL DISTRACTIONS
  4. USE ACTIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES
  5. MATCH YOUR LEARNING STYLE TO THE STRATEGIES
  6. MONITOR YOUR CONCENTRATION

  • READING/STUDY SYSTEM (SQ3R)

WARNING!!!

  1. DON'T STUDY UNTIL LATE NIGHT
  2. STUDY WITH CALM HEART
  3. DISCIPLINE
  4. PREVENT YOUR FROM STUDY IF YOU ARE SLEEPY
  5.  DON'T MEMORIZE THE CALCULUS BUT DO EXERCISES
  6. DO YOUR WORK FASTLY, NO DELAYING
  7. DON'T COPY YOUR FRIENDS WORK
  8. PREVENT YOURSELF FROM TAKING NOTE IN LARGE AMOUNT THEN READ BUT READ CONSEQUENTLY

BRAINS EXERCISE:-

1. MULTICOLOURED TEXT
2. SWITCH HAND
3. DRAWING USING BOTH HAND AT THE SAME TIME WITH DIFFERENT SHAPES

ADVICE FROM THE EXPERT:-
  1. USING UNDOMINANT HAND TO DO ROUTINE WORK
  2. BATH WITH CLOSED-EYED AND CALM YOUR MIND
  3. GO TO THE SAME PLACE WITH OTHER WAYS
  4. WATCHING MUTED MOVIES AND ANALYZED THE DIALOUGE

THANK YOU!!!
